If you have not heard already, Will Smith slapped the sh*t out of Chris Rock at the Oscars on Sunday night. I saw the video, a few times actually. I had to reexamine and look close as I squint my eyes trying to see if Will Smith actually hit Chris Rock. Oh he did, and it was hard. What I didn't hear, was what Chris Rock said. Honestly, I am not sure it matters what Chris Rock said, I think what Will Smith did was uncalled for. But what if it was called for? What if it was all a set up just to get people talking? Somewhere a public relations person came up with a great idea for the Oscars to get people watching. Have Will Smith slap the host.
Look at what happened. The host, Chris Rock, told a joke, that apparently made Will Smith's wife upset. Will Smith felt it was appropriate to stroll up on stage, as all eyes were on him at this moment, and slap the host. I think it wasn't directed at Chris Rock in theory. The plan of the slap was to put on a show, was it not? I turned on CNN today, as I rarely do. I consider myself more of a Fox news type of guy. They started talking about what happened at the Oscars on whatever show was on CNN at this moment, telling the tale of the slap that will go down in history. You know who else talked about it? Fox news, Court Tv, CNN, TMZ and any news source you can tune into. All sources went in depth on this slap. Almost as if it was the greatest breaking news of the year, everyone was talking about it! That made me think for a second. What benefit would Will Smith get from slapping Chris Rock?
For starters, you should know that what Will Smith did is an arrestable offence. Chris Rock could press charges if he wanted. He has already made it clear that he is not going to press charges, but just know he could. I feel it is no secret that television viewership of the Oscars has been declining over the past few years. However, and I have not verified these thoughts, I am assuming that since the pandemic, people have been watching a little more tv, particularly movies. Yes, theaters have been opening back up, but streaming movies at home hit a whole new level of high during the time of the Covid pandemic. So, in theory, if people are watching more movies lately, they may actually be interested in what movies and actors won awards for these movies. So, I would also assume, that the Oscars were assuming a decent amount of viewership this year, but what would put it over the top? Get everyone talking about what happened. Get people to take sides, who is in the right, who is in the wrong? People always take sides. Something had to take place, that would get people looking it up through Google or YouTube the following day. Those who witnessed the slap live, took to social media, and almost instantly the clip of the slap become a sensational hit.
I am not saying for sure the slap was all a set up because I do think Will Smith actually made contact with Chris Rock's face. However, couldn't you see the benefits of sett

ing something up that is so drastic in order to get viewership? It all makes sense. Watch the slap for yourself, and see what you think. Did the Oscars tell Chris Rock to make a somewhat offending joke to get a response out of Will Smith? Did he talk to Chris Rock before the event and alerted him what to say to contribute to sensationalism for the whole event?
